Learn about addition and the methods that can be used, number line, formal written and splitting methods. This course is ideal for beginners.
Introduction
When you add numbers together you use the addition sign – this is the symbol where vertical and horizonal lines cross in the middle.We use different words to describe addition
For example, 3 + 6 = 9 can also be described as:
· 3 add 6 equals 9 (written out in full English)
· The sum of 3 and 6 is 9
· If you increase 3 by 6, you get 9
· Altogether, 3 and 6 make 9
· The total of 3 and 6 is 9
· 9 is 6 more than 3
When you are adding numbers together it doesn’t matter which order they are in.
For example:
20 + 4 = 24 is the same as 4 + 20 = 24.
