Social Engineering

Course modified date: 9 Nov 2022

The Social Engineering module covers topics on: difference between a technical and non-technical attack, different types of social engineering, and what to do if you are the target of a social engineering scam.

Our organization uses the latest technology to prevent and stop cybercrime. We have safeguards in place that can detect technical attacks, which exploit technical weaknesses within an organization, like design flaws in computer software.Technical safeguards may include spam filters, antivirus software to stop known viruses, and firewalls, which can block hacking attacks. However, it is critical to understand that some threats cannot be stopped with technology alone.

By contrast, non-technical attack methods are designed to exploit flaws in human thinking. These attacks are also called social engineering, manipulating your emotions and tricking you into doing something you should not do.

For example, a spear phishing attack appeals to emotion, creates a sense of urgency,or builds a rapport with the recipient to get them to click a link, download an attachment, or give up sensitive information.
