Conditional sentences

Course modified date: 30 May 2022

In this course you will Learn about sentence types, specifically conditional sentences. This course is ideal for intermediate learners.

Introduction

We use conditional sentences every day of our lives. However, mistakes are common, especially in written English. These sentences are usually in two halves, or ‘clauses’. One of the clauses usually contains the word ‘if’.

For this reason, they are sometimes called ‘if-clauses’. They include an action or outcome that can only happen if the condition in the other clause is met.

You will learn

  1. Conditional sentences
  2. Three types of conditions of 'if-clauses'
  3. Conditional tenses
  4. The 'was/were' rule
