Prefixes

Course modified date: 7 Jul 2024

In this course you will learn about prefixes and what they are. This course is ideal for intermediate learners.

Introduction

A prefix is a letter, or a group of letters, added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning.

A prefix is added to a “root” word to add meaning.

Here is an example.

‘Friendly’, meaning kind of pleasant, can be changed to ‘unfriendly’. The “un”- prefix changes the word from a positive to a negative.
